Box-type retaining walls are a construction method that involves filling a bottomless precast concrete frame (box) shaped like a box with single-sized crushed stone (wall material) around S-40, compacting it in layers using a rammer, and stacking it in a stepped manner.
Since single-sized crushed stone is used as the wall material, it has high drainage performance, and the interlocking of the crushed stone provides high shear resistance, resulting in excellent seismic performance.
【What are the differences and effects compared to conventional methods?】
In traditional large block masonry, the length of the buttress is selected according to soil pressure conditions, but with the box type, this is not necessary. It can construct higher walls using only the box (L-type A) and single-sized crushed stone wall material, achieving greater wall heights than conventional methods. Additionally, especially when exceeding a height of about 7 meters, it becomes particularly economical, reducing construction time by more than 40% compared to conventional methods, leading to significant time savings. Since it does not use ready-mixed concrete, it allows for rapid progress in disaster recovery work.
